The Offering Desk of the Guan Yue Temple

This small-scale work is an extension of my ongoing Guan Yue Temple series. It focuses on a magnified view of the offering desk positioned in front of the temple, bringing attention to a space that is often overlooked yet central to everyday worship practices. The drawing is constructed using a paper-cut, layered relief technique. By separating the image into multiple layers, the work emphasises depth, spatial relationships, and the careful arrangement of offerings placed on the desk. This method allows the scene to unfold gradually, guiding the viewer’s gaze from surface details to the spatial structure behind them.
